Casa del Mar is a hidden treasure in Malaysia, the Mediterranean-style beachfront hotel in Langkawi is offering family-like hospitality that will make you come back again...
I returned to Langkawi with the mission to make a new travel video, not necessarily about Langkawi itself, more like a video about how we feel when we travel and how easily we feel home at foreign places.
Particularly, Casa del Mar - the place I stayed - gave me such a feeling. I spent five wonderful days there, getting to know the staff working at the hotel, but also meeting locals and exploring the surroundings.
During my time in Langkawi, my videographer Zeniqe and I tried to film as much as possible to capture Langkawi Island, showing a few glimpses of Casa del Mar, but also creating a story about the beauty of travel. Before I get into all the details about Casa del Mar, have a look at the video (and let me know what you think!!)

Today I'm writing about Casa del Mar in Langkawi, and if you're looking for a peaceful island retreat with friendly staff that will treat you like family, then you have come to the right place. Let's begin!
Casa del Mar – Home away from home
Before my arrival at Casa del Mar, I read a few reviews on Tripadvisor about the resort, and I was amazed to see an overwhelming amount of five star reviews. Over 2000 people left a review on Tripadvisor, and at the time of writing, Casa del Mar is ranked as #1 hotel in Pantai Cenang, the touristic center of Langkawi.
The location is excellent if you want to explore nearby surroundings. There are plenty of restaurants, bars, and shopping opportunities within walking distance. But even if you look for some serenity, you can relax by the beach or take a walk in the rice paddies across Casa del Mar.
Casa del Mar is a brilliant choice if you're planning a romantic getaway in Langkawi with your partner - The resort offers a quiet oasis for couples or good friends, looking for the perfect vacation without distractions.
Rooms at Casa del Mar
The 4-star boutique resort offers 34 gorgeous sea view rooms with stunning beach and ocean views. My spacious beachfront room featured a Mediterranean style decor, combined with dark wooden furniture. A big comfortable bed with plenty of pillows assured a great night's sleep.
I love it when hotels offer bathrobes and slippers, it makes me feel like home. Yes, I'm one of those who walks around in a bathrobe half of the day. And since all rooms have either a balcony, little garden or a patio with some furniture, it's totally acceptable to wear all day a bathrobe in your little oasis.
Needless to say, all rooms are air conditioned, there is a safety box for valuables (big enough for your laptop), coffee maker, tea and kettle, complimentary WiFi, LCD TV with satellite channels (which I never used), iPod docking station and daily newspapers.
There was a jar with delicious homemade cookies in my room, and I was delighted the cookies were refilled every day. I wish every hotel would offer homemade cookies to their guests.
Here a few more pictures of my amazing beachfront room...
Facilities & Activities
Casa del Mar offers plenty of facilities, you can spend your entire time just at the resort without getting bored. I enjoyed a relaxing massage treatment at the in house spa, cocktails in the Jacuzzi, I swam a few lapses in the swimming pool. There is even a gym for more fitness activities, but I decided to focus on the more relaxing aspects.
The hotel has its own library with books in different languages. If reading isn't your thing, you could take advantage of the free bikes and explore nearby surroundings (check out the rice paddies across!)
Langkawi is famous for water sports, ask at the front desk for some fun activities such as parasailing or jet ski. I did a jet ski tour with Megasports and it was awesome! The front desk is extremely helpful and can organise day trips for you, there are plenty of fun things to do in Langkawi.
Food
All guests of Casa del Mar enjoy a complimentary breakfast buffet, and needless to say, I did not miss breakfast a single time. I prefer healthy foods and value hotels that offer a decent selection of fresh fruits for breakfast. There was an entire buffet with fresh fruits and one of the kitchen staff would just cut any fruits of my choice. Every morning I'd had porridge with mangoes, papaya, water melon and pineapple.
The buffet offers plenty, from baked breads, salads, different cheeses, cereals, nuts and dried fruits, several kinds of spreads to freshly squeezed juices... If that's not enough you can get additional items from the menu. I mostly ordered some fresh spring rolls on top, which were delicious. The coffee is really good and I was thrilled that they offered soy milk as well.
Here a pic of my usual breakfast, minus the croissant (that was for my videographer.)
Aside from the flavorful breakfast buffet, I highly recommend trying their restaurant La Sal where you can get a taste of Western Food, Mediterranean Cuisine and local Asian dishes. You must try the hummus with pita bread, it was one of my favorites! I tried a few of their homemade soups and they were all incredible tasty.
The restaurant gets busy in the early evening when the happy hour starts, so don't miss having an ice cold cocktail during sunset time. Around 7PM they set up tables on the beach where you can have a romantic dinner with your partner while admiring the sunset... It's truly a special place to enjoy a meal.
Despite all the busy days, filled with filming and photo shoots, I still enjoyed every minute at Casa del Mar. It's one of those places that feels more like a home than a hotel - it's the people who work there who make this resort unique. Everyone knows your name and is dedicated to give you the best time ever. A special thanks to the awesome staff who spoiled me in all ways possible. Nothing would trouble them to make their guests happy.
Langkawi is one of my favorite islands in Malaysia, it offers plenty of sights and adventurous activities for its visitors, the island is just perfect for a relaxing time with your friend or partner. If you're dreaming of a peaceful beach getaway, have a look at Casa del Mar, you might love it as much as I did. My time went by too fast, and I can't wait to go back. Next time I'll stay longer, for sure.
According to Tripadvisor, Casa del Mar is one of the Top 10 Hotels in Langkawi.
